I came upon Project Unbreakable by accident, and it ended up changing my world. This powerful blog and photography project was kick-started by Grace Brown, a 21-year-old photographer from the US. Project Unbreakable features real sexual abuse victims, holding the words of their attackers.
The mission of Project Unbreakable is to increase awareness of the issues surrounding sexual assault and encourage the act of healing through art. Since the project’s conception in October 2011 by then nineteen year old Grace Brown, it has featured over two thousand images of sexual assault survivors holding posters with quotes from their attackers. – Project Unbreakable
The above photo is just one of the amazing images featured on the site. I can tell you that I’m yet to make it through a page on the site without being brought to tears. There’s something about seeing the victims and what their abusers said to them that reminds me this is all…real. Important, and real.
The images feature all kinds of victims: male, female, homosexual, transgender, etc. The portraits of themselves and the awful, real words of their abusers, gives the world the reality check it needs.
